Drug suspect arrested - 9 March 2013
A woman was allegedly raped 100m from Midstream Estate while she was jogging. According to the description given to Rekord, the 35-year-old suspect is bald with a medium build. The incident was discovered at around 11:00 when a passer-by found the victim alongside the road next to the bushes.
According to Monitor Net’s response officer, Nico Chrisostomou, who was patrolling the area together with his colleague Martin Siebert, they saw a woman trying to run out of the bushes after she was pulled in by a suspect. When they realized that the woman had been raped, Monitor Net and the LS1 Community Policing Sub-forum (CPSF) organized a private chopper to assist with the search of the perpetrator.
The public relations officer of the LS1 (CPSF), Lara Ferreira-Netto, she received a message regarding the incident that occurred at Midstream. Ferreira said the suspect overpowered the victim and that they suspected she was running off-road when her employer onBrakfontein Road, who was from a grocery store, found her before she was taken to a hospital.
A pair of jogging pants and an iPod was found while investigations were carried out at the scene. Ferreira added that four suspects were arrested in relation to a separate incident while the choppers were searching for the suspected rapist. The suspects were arrested in connection with drugs while running away from the nearby taxi rank. The CPSF found two packets of dagga, which were thrown away by the suspects while trying to escape.
Rekord tried to contact the Olievenhoutbosch police, but all numbers went straight to voicemail. At the time of publication, it was not known whether the rape suspect was arrested or still at large and the police were not available to confirm the events.
